There are so many game streaming services popping up, with so many idiosyncrasies, that it’s hard to keep it all straight. In this video, James takes Linus through a tour testing GeForce Now, Google Stadia, Microsoft Project Xcloud, and Sony PlayStation Now to see which one makes the most sense...except we didn't try Shadow.

How about you test it on "normal people" internet 😐

  • jazzmickge1

I don't think its a fair real world test based on LMG internet bandwidth. They should do the test again at their home on a normal domestic connection to really see if it's still functional. And also to see if bandwidth creates more graphics distortion or even lag and drop-outs.

I don't think doing this from an office with a (probably prioritized) 1+ Gigabit connection is fair. That being said, if you ask me, for any "Netflix of gaming" to have any sort of chance at taking off, it needs to behave like Netflix does, where you don't have to buy any movies or games and just pay a monthly fee to stream them. Most of these services require you to buy the game on top of that monthly subscription fee; if you're gonna buy the game just save up for the hardware to run it on locally and you'll have a lot less problems.

That snapping while turning that feels like latency sounds like a deadzone problem in your controllers. But then again I am no expert so I apologize if I am completely wrong. I just customize my dead zones on my controllers for different games for quick snapping or smooth turns.

    • Thomas Fox
      Thomas Fox

Looks like he had the same issue on all services and controllers, so I'd guess it's more the few mS of latency there. Doesn't take much to become noticeable.

Playstation Now has a lot of games but the latency input was huge for me where xCloud, Geforce Now, and Stadia are all incredibly responsive. I'm on the east coast and should be close to servers but it was awful for me. It's a huge shame too since I am a primarily PC player and wanted to play God of War on the service but could not handle how poorly it performed.

With Destiny 2, you should have upgraded the video options to have the rendering at 200% (effectively making the game run at 4K). That would be the best quality you could get on Geforce Now.

The only service i have tested was PSnow and it sucked. I don´t have a playstation, so i decided to try out the service to play the last of us. And the experience was a disaster, i couldn´t aim properly because of latency. My internect connection is 100mb dl and 10 mb upload, so i don´t know if it was because of that.

looks ok, no blocky artifacts... we do have badass internet though. Yeah I'd be shocked if you had any network issues with your 10 gigabit connection... in my area we have decent connections and we are LUCKY to be able to get to 0.3 gigabits per second (300 some megabits per second). Though we are fortunate to have connections that fast because I know of people in my circles that due to their location no amount of money can get them decent internet that isn't beat in speed, cost, reliability, etc at the same time by a decent cell phone plan (and we have some of the worst phone plan prices in the country if not the world). Nah, keep the streaming, I hate that jelly feeling and would rather just use my PC. I understand where it would be handy to have a streaming service but it's also a sign of the times (everything goes to the cloud, you own nothing) which I think is dangerous and just a bad idea since we already gave up physical ownership long ago for digital downloads.

  • its_justmagic

I really wanted to play the last of us so I setup ps now but it was unplayable. Horrible fps, slow loading times and input lag. Geforce now was the best streaming experience I have gotten but it doesn't have that many games.
