Victor Davis Hanson on “The Case For Trump”
Recorded on April 1, 2019.
How did blue-collar voters connect with a millionaire from Queens in the 2016 election? Martin and Illie Anderson Senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson addresses that question and more in his newly released book, The Case for Trump. He sits down with Peter Robinson to chat about his motivation to write a book making a rational case for those voters who chose Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.
Hanson and Robinson, the Murdoch Distinguished Policy Fellow, discuss how voters connected with Trump’s “personal authenticity” during the campaign and how the media has a “historical amnesia” of the bad behavior of past presidents when talking about President Trump. The president, Hanson argues, was always an outsider from elite society in Manhattan, which helped him to better to connect with voters who felt like outsiders. He analyzes President Trump’s platform agenda, which was composed 80% of traditionally conservative views with the remaining 20% being radical ideas that fit with many of the views of the midwestern states. He breaks down why, in the end, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich didn’t appeal to voters in the way that Trump managed to.
Hanson turns to talk about his background and life growing up in California’s Central Valley and how different the area feels now compared to when he was younger. He talks about seeing the majority of the family-run farms being steadily replaced with large commercial operations and how that’s drastically impacted the workforce and economics of the region. He goes on to discuss issues of water protection and water quality in the Central Valley and how Bay Area elites prioritize their water quality over that of the rural farmers.

Interesting analysis and perspective. Thanks. I guess Trump himself could never articulate this in the way Hanson does. Maybe Trump is not even fully conscious of this. Maybe you can be an effective populist, anti elite without being fully conscious of how. Strange.

Thank God I've heard someone remark on Trumps empathy. It's not just in the superficial way that could be understood in the our statement. Trump is very empathic on personal tragedy, injustice and remarkably bullying. It's interesting that half the people hear and feel it and the other half think he's a greater psychopath than Satan

Dr. Hanson was right in his assessment of current Trump supporter's always having an excuse in the beginning of the 2016 elections, the main one being "Well, Trump wasn't my first choice!" If that statement has been made once, it has been made a thousand times as an excuse for those now supporting President Donald Trump. I suppose people who now support President Trump still are rather embarrassed about having done so and need some sort of an excuse aside from just saying they supported him from the beginning.

I don’t believe that Democrat Party should focus on identity ideologies and racism topics daily to split our country by hatred toward each other as different ethnic groups, since America is not a racist country as majority of Americans are all racists. Maybe tiny tiny bit amount of racism still exist between each different ethnic toward each other’s different backgrounds or habits, or hobbies, however the majority of Americans don’t think racism behaviors should be the majority of the life that way. We just see nowadays the minority of Americans from all different areas of the world almost the same amount of American natives as White and Black Americans. This proves that America is not a racism country but plenty of loving kindness toward others. We should promote loving kindness nature toward each other instead of split our entire nation by focusing on really tiny bit incidents of the racism incidents from different ethnics by making a big deal of hatred toward only all White Americans only. Only constant promoting good behaviors of loving kindness nature toward each other, help each other between each other, our society will only be better, when time goes by. Also America’s loving kindness nature came from Christianity, I guess continued promoting of Christianity spirit, we will only love each other more and better. If brought trends of hatred toward one particular race of White Americans only, surely this’ll bounce back the reflections of hatred back too, because no countries will like to see their loving kindness nature brought others to America and end up being hated. We are all Americans and humans now and live in same country America to build America together. Love each other as Christianity spirit together, support and help each other as one nation under America’s principles to build our country America’s greatness, how nice can it be. This is why I believe Governing by America’s principles of Foundation and Constitution instead of focusing on identity ideologies of unknown systems to govern to create hatred toward each other either by different races or between the rich and poor by envying. I pray for unity again between each other by our mutual generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other this time, focusing on loving our great country America together and build America together by getting things done quickly together again instead of focusing on impeachment or hatred by races or between the rich and poor ideologies. Let’s reunite together again and govern by our country America’s own established laws afterwards together by learning experiences. Let’s forgive each other this time reunite together again by generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other’s service and mistakes this time and reunite together and get things done quickly together for a safe, prosperous and united country to enjoy freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities principles together and forever.

Vulgar, uncouth, etc,. It is about time to get down into the trenches and speak to the libs in the only language they understand! Donald Trump’s signature legislative achievement was the corporate-tax cut he signed in 2017. Republicans said it would grow the economy by up to 6 percent, stimulate business investment, and pay for itself.None of those promises have come to pass. GDP growth has declined to less than 2 percent according to the latest report, released yesterday. Business investment has now declined for two straight quarters, dragging down economic growth. And the federal deficit exceeds $1 trillion.

We have never had superior moral character as President yet it is expected of President Trump. He has kept his word to those who voted for him and deserves our backing! Stand YOUR GROUND are being lied to by the media at large and made to feel inferior because you back a President who in the end is a fallible person. All of them have been so what's new? The alternative to Trump would have been a disciple of the leftist radical Saul Alinsky, Hillary Clinton, the biggest crook America has ever known. She wrote There Is Only The Fight a leftist propaganda thesis in college! American women should have listened closer. She is a devil!

Crazy talk. Why? Pondering the actions of politicians or of criminals? Oh, giving dignity to straight up globalist thugs bent on taking down our Republic. This is pussy-footed indulgence in creating dialog for narratives of the absurd. Hanson was a day late and a dollar short standing up for POTUS. Very disappointed in such dull walk dally.

All us American Patriots, must support our CIC and now AG Barr. AG Barr will not recuse himself, he's going to get down to the nitty-gritty and start to make arrests of the criminals who are part of the Obama Administration. This is the biggest Coup d'état, hoax deep state in American history. Nancy Pelosi is supposed to be the speaker of her house of lunatic cards. Except for the fact that Pelosi seems to be taking orders from Adam Shiff who no doubt is a mentally sick man. The DemiFleas report to George Soros who takes care of all these deceptive DemiDogs. Bill Barr must protect the American People along with their families. He must do this quickly so that they can't catch planes and make a big run out of the Country. They all need to be thrown into Guantanamo Bay for their verdicts. Mr. Barr the American people must see some indictments. Get Hillary first, that would be a great start. But the American People want to see some results to get your indictments started. Please

Im 60 when is was a kid we never locked the doors. My dad worked at kodak. My mom stayed home. Now the mother has to work just to pay the bills. We had one nice car. Nice home. Now my wife and i have a nice home. Nothing special. 2 cars. No kids because i would never raise kids today in this world. We both work just to have a good life. Kids today are brought up in day care. Mom picks them up at 6pm. Tired. Credit cards are maxed out. I have a good life. I chould not imagine bringing up a couple of kids today. At some point one of the children will have to work just to pay the bills. Can kids today afford to live on there own. No. Today in a good neighborhood. We lock the doors. Turn on the lights. And i have 2 guns. The middle class is gone.

Really listening to Mr Hanson is a favor to oneself to understand the state of affairs in the US. Wish the Americans could spare their sanity and listen to this erudite gentleman. If immigrants cannot contribute, assimilate and make an effort to understand the country's populace and their culture, then that does cause an imbalance...... Following this from India..

I think even Hansen misreads Trump. When he tweets about the GDP for example, and decries the lack of coverage, it has nothing to do with being obsessed over “getting credit”. It has everything to do with reporting what the press won’t AND exposing the press for wha it has become. No academic will ever “get” President Trump.
